In my view of hair coloring, learning to dye for good must begin exactly in a manner pathetically emphasized in this preface.

They say "Half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge." This is exactly the reason I wrote that mere "HOW TO" could not spare you the nightmare color outcome.

What I am saying is that technical aspects of coloring are not where you should start learning to dye at home. Moreover they are not ALL you should learn about dyeing.
So, again I repeat, please don't skip the pages, if you are indeed and at all that keen about learning "How To" dye for good.
There is a popular saying "Always begin with the end in mind"… and it amazes me to see how much of it is applicable in dyeing hair for good… and how much the more of it is missed by those who dye!
One reason being, in life we tend to get so much involved with the details that we totally miss the big picture part of the things.
Let me remind you, if you did miss it… There is nothing else in fashion and beauty than the hair color, where you can never afford to forget the big picture.
Simply said, hair color mishap is much more disastrous than any other mistake you make in beauty and personal care.
If gone wrong, you can change your clothing, your accessories, your mascara, eyeliner, a gloss or a lipstick.
Could you change your hair color on the GO? The answer is NO!
Did you say why not? Well… Most probably than not, you would require a visit or more to the salon, which is not a bit in sync with the concept of HOME hair dyeing to begin with.
This brings me to, SAY the philosophy of dyeing… and I would love to know that you have grasped it for good.
Keeping aside the techniques for a while, let us utilize the adage above "Always begin with the end in mind"… We are well on our way to discover the theory of BRILLIANCE in hair coloring!
For that I hereby propose that hair dyeing before anything else must be classified into two main categories:
1) Thoughtful coloring:
When you know what you are doing and also know what you will end up being.
Then… you head up searching for the HOW TO.
2) Thoughtless coloring:
When you don't know what you are UP TO…
and all the way head up for the HOW TO!

I know, it does sound much like a SELF HELP or MIND POWER TUTORIAL than the hair coloring tips you anticipate! And… to a few it may resemble a useless out of the context blabber.
Well… Can't we say it's out of the box approach to DIY hair dyeing? I leave it as homework for you to ponder over!
In case you are feeling "I already know it!" I will ask you to wait a moment and…
Visit the forums discussing the hair color issues or talk with the one you know had done it at home and you will know what I am talking about!
You probably won't meet the one who tells you "I didn't know it!"
Here's a snapshot of the talk going on there, over and over again…
"I dyed my hair back to the natural from the cute subtle highlights I was wearing for so long. OMG! I was in real panic; it didn't turn out as expected. Should I color again?"
I was blonde but when I tried to go brown by myself at home OMG! Disastrous… ever since that calamity I haven't dared to do my own color at home.
These DIY hair colorists as well "Knew it"!
But, dig a little deeper into the problems they discuss and you will note that many or all of them were missing the BROAD LINK in dyeing hair for good i.e. The 10000 Feet Overview i.e. the big picture.
That's exactly why they end up with a color panic or a color disaster. All the while when they assumed "they knew it"!
Do you still feel that you are wasting too much of your time reading such a trivial talk?
Again head over to the forums and this time calculate how much of the time home hair colorists with a disaster are hanging there, how much money and brains they say they have spent… just to get a whole lot of confusing "I think" and "Me too" type of answers.
The irony is that this is all because of not knowing the simple fact.
In the true sense of the matter, they are discussing a problem they had never had, should they bother to learn our theory of thoughtful hair coloring!
If you are reading this far then you have already set yourself apart from the typical novice as well as the naive hair dyer.
